Mid America Trials Team
October 2004
The next MATT trials will be the annual "Hot Dog Trials" held in Trenton, MO on Oct 17. Start time is 11 A.M. Feel free to bring a side dish or a desert as hotdogs and chili will be served.
The Blue-Grey Cup Challenge Series There are a number of events coming up very quickly. The annual Cornhusker Cup in NE is Oct 9. MATT members are encouraged to ride this event since this is a club vs. club mini series with our MWTA friends. The mini series is called the Blue-Grey Cup and there is no additional entry fee to get in. Just compete at the Quarry Cup and the Cornhusker Cup. MWTA and MATT are very similar with the Sat night meal and bonfire. This is a fun event and I expect to see all MATT Quarry Cup riders there.
The Central Regional Series got kicked off at the 31annual Quarry Cup. There are some cool things going on with the Gas Gas sponsored series. There is a random draw team event and of course all the great 2-days put on by the clubs. There are also 8 different classes offered so there is something for everyone. The weekend of Oct 23 & 24 is rounds 5 & 6 of the Central regional series in Langley, OK (NEOTT). Muenster, TX (NTTA) held rounds 3 & 4 on Oct 2 and 3rd . Rounds 7 & 8 will be held Nov 6 & 7 th in Douglas, KS (AVTA). Hope to see you there. Central Regional Series of Observed Trials
Presidents Message September 2004
We did it, AGAIN! Another successful Quarry Cup!
According to Dale Malasek-his final tally of 101 riders made this the best attended QC ever.
Ill take your word for it Dale, since Ive only been a club member about 5 years.
Also another achievement to be proud of is the fact the QC is the oldest continuously held
Trials event in North America. Sure, some events have been around longer, but for some reason
or other, not continuously. When you consider the size of your club at the location in North
America, that is remarkable!
I want to spend a little ink now, and try to thank all of those who helped put this year's event together. LADIES FIRST Chris Hopkins for organizing and recruiting a great team to work the scoreshed. I believe the ladies had a lot of fun and did a great job of getting the riders checked in and out efficiently. Eva Carver and crew for getting the Saturday evening meal arranged and served. I was amazed at how far 5 chickens and 7 dinner rolls would go. Jim and Susan Bridges for the brats and fixins for Sundays snacks and all the ladies dessert contributions. Mary Dempsey for handling the T-Shirt sales, this year all were sold less the 10 we gave away for the cadet and rookie classes. Cheryl Carpenter and Keri Dennis with help from Mike and Randy and the Carpenter boys, Jason, Marc and Scott for doing such a great job with the cadets and rookies. We had only planned to have the kids event on Saturday evening, but because two of the boys were competing for points in the Central Regional, a change of plans was called for. We could have just taken the two boys around on Sunday morning, but that wouldnt have been very fair to the others. So, we reversed three of the five sections and let everyone ride and make both days count towards the overalls, just like the big folks! The kids loved it, and it just felt better for the rest of us! Some of the desserts from Saturday evening were left over and I think some of the kids got a little hyper waiting for Sundays event to start.
Deward and Marilyn Critten are a real asset to our club. Besides checking the grounds frequently, they worked as greeters on Saturday morning, arranged for the Porta-potties, and helped with the signage.
Carl Hopkins got all his ducks in a row (the AM and PM checkers both days). Steve Morgan and Bill Sanderson were Section Captains and along with their crews had 2 dozen sections available for the event. A good thing too, since Saturday morning rains required a change of plans and alterations were made promptly. Steve also, along with Bill Wachendorfer acted as course marshals for both days and made some good and fair decisions when clarification was required. Russ Amos, Greig Engle, Mike Carpenter and Carl Hopkins acted as sweep riders to get the checkers in as quickly as possible. Bruce Carver and crew did and outstanding job of loop clearing and marking. Bob Sanderson cut the new trail in the Northeast corner of the loop as well as making some interesting sections. The upper class section that had the Master Class riders riding the V in the tree was Bob's handiwork.
Russ Amos continued his delivery of some beautiful awards for the overall winners. I believe that Russs Awards are very unique and prized possessions that bring riders back each year!
Thanks also to Paul Turnbull for doing the finisher pins.
If I missed anyone I apologize here and now. It was purely unintentional. Ken Brown and Jesse Wessels have been coordinating the Blue-Grey Cup series between the MATT and MWTA riders. MWTAs Cornhusker Cup will be held Oct. 9 10 at Weeping Water, NE. Hopefully several of the MATT riders will be attending to contest for Braggin rights. This is the first year for this event and hopefully it will become an annual event. MWTA attends several of our club events as well as the QC. Lets try to support their events as well, well see how it goes.
Finally, Oct. 17 brings us to the Annual Hot Dog Trials put on by the Carver Clan and the election of MATT Officers for the coming year. Start thinking about nominations and hopefully we will have a good turnout Sunday morning for the proceedings. Until next time - feet up and forward!
