Mid America Trials Team

August/September 2006

The 2006 running of our Annual Quarry Cup is fast approaching. Mark September 16th & 17th as MATT once again hosts the opening two rounds of the Central Regional series. We will also be hosting two rounds for the new Northern Central series Ken Brown Jr. has been working on. Included with this newsline will be the job duties assigned to each club member. If we all help just a little bit, then the whole event will be that much easier and enjoyable to put on.

The dates have been confirmed for the Central Regional Series. Your best 6 out of 8 rds count towards series end awards. Most of the time, those have been nice versatile jackets with your name, class and finish on it for the top three places. Once again, NATC national rules will be used to help standardize scoring. Basically, it means no backing up in a section. So grab you buddy and head out for a mini-road trip this fall.

The 2006 NATC National Trials Series has been completed. Congratulations go out to Geoff Aaron on his 10th national championship. Dale Malasek reigned supreme as he took the Senior 60 title. Dustin Land from Wichita earned the Expert-Sportsman title in a successful out of retirement campaign. Gary Wing sewed up the Senior 70 championship after the first five rounds. Other notables include Jason Carpenter - Expert- 7th, Marc Carpenter - Expert - 22nd, Scott Carpenter - Expert - 24th, Bill Sanderson - Expert - 25th, Jake Weiland - Expert Sportsman - 2nd, Ken Brown Jr. - Senior 50 - 22nd, Mike Carpenter - Senior 55 - 15th. Congrats to all on a job well done.

The 2006 UTE Cup was a small affair this year due to multiple circumstances. Held at Cliff Tucker's Ranch, 25 riders arrived ready to test their mental and physical abilities. MATT had three riders go to try and retain our #1 visiting club rug. They were successful with the team of Jake Weiland - 4th, Scott Carpenter - 5th, and Marc Carpenter - 9th. Good job fellas. Next year's event should be a more traditional UTE to be held at San Isabel.

The North Central Trial Series, in its inaugural season, will get underway this weekend with a 2-day in Theilman, Minnesota. Rounds 3 & 4 will be the Quarry Cup with rounds 5 & 6 in Nebraska at the Cornhusker Cup on Oct. 7th & 8th. Let's help get this series underway. Contact Ken Brown Jr. for more info.
