MATT NEWSLINE: OCTOBER 2007

Note to the Master Class: Jason Carpenter is getting serious about this sport! Jason picked up a new 2007 GG280 Pro a couple of weeks ago and reportedly, HE LIKES IT! Look out; young Jason may be taking home some Gold in 2008!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU Carver family, especially Doug and Kathy King, with the help of Jim Bridges! Saturday night before the Hot Dog trials, the aforementioned parties hosted a fabulous fish fry and hush puppies dinner! Now, I may have missed the dinner, but I did enjoy the fish and hush puppies the next day even though they were cold! Of course a great evening of fun, horse shoes, conversation and a great fire was enjoyed at the Carver camp (thanks Carl Hopkins for the use of his generator). The cedar tree was decorated with white lights and we were graced by the presence of the sombrero’d Spanish desperado Senior Bud Light with his criss crossed ammunition belts across his chest, loaded with Bud Light cans. Other wholesome entertainment was provided by Colby Alvis and Cage Carpenter. The two toddlers played and sang (actually just one constant, very high pitch note, did I mention constant?) and some death defying leaps from at least six inches high, off the horse shoe pit backboard. But if you really want some side splitting entertainment, just leave an open bottle of Wild Turkey Honey Whisky out for the girls to find. Of course to get things started and keep them rolling, you need a good catalyst. Enter the tea toadling Keri Dennis. Apparently Keri goaded Ladonna, Chris, Cheryl and Jennifer into polishing off the whole bottle (probably didn’t take too much goading)! The air was filled with squeals of laughter, and pretty much anything that was said was VERY FUNNY! For some reason unknown to me, Ladonna spent the night with her left arm inside her sweat shirt, across her chest. The discussion turned to men folk. Ladonna pounded her hand under her shirt like her heart was going to burst and everyone squealed. Then Jennifer informed us what her Mother told her about boys and Chester when she was “coming of age”. All I can remember is: “Just because Chester stands up, doesn’t mean you have to play with him.” Whatever that means. Chris got something out of it because she said she was going to tell Carl! It was a beautiful night and everyone had a great time.

Speaking of Carl, he and Bruce laid out a terrific trial! Everyone had a great time, sections were great, weather was great, what a great fall season of riding! Over 30 riders enjoyed the day and once again our friend Jim Westcott traveled down to join us and kick butt in the Expert Class. Jim rides pretty good for and old guy! Matt Hopkins was MIA. Apparently he had a big wedding and reception to go to on Saturday. Either he is just a big lush or he is afraid to defend his Expert wins from earlier this year!

Following the trials on Sunday, as is tradition, the Carvers once again hosted a feast of hot dogs, brats, sausages, chili and assorted accoutrements. It was GREAT! Thanks again! And as is tradition, MATT had our annual election of new officers after the after the “Hot Dog Trials” hot dogs etc. It was a very good meeting, the results of which are as follows:

1) Motion was approved to grant spouse/significant other a vote in MATT.

2) A committee was formed to review section marking policies and rules. The committee consists

Of Bruce Carver, Steve Morgan, Mike Carpenter and Ken Brown as Chairman.

3) New elected officers are: President Bill Sanderson, VP Marc Carpenter, Secretary Kelly Echterling

(Matt Hopkins, you owe me!) and Treasurer Carl Hopkins.

4) Motion was approved to always hold the Quarry Cup on the 3rd Sunday of September.

5) Jason Carpenter will investigate AMA Insurance information and report back to the club.

6) Kelly Echterling was appointed MATT’s Representative for the Central Regional Series.

I have some insight into the November trials coming up THIS SUNDAY! If you don’t like rocks, stay away from the Quarry! Jim Jeter and I are planning 8 sections to test the competitors in every class.
